May 2006: Steve McManus presents to the St. Thomas More Society
Steve McManus presented "Catholicism, the Law, and the Military" at the St. Thomas More Society's First Friday Breakfast, where he discussed duties of an attorney in the military, potential conflicts between the law and the faith, current hot topics (death penalty, War on Terror, etc.), and benefits and difficulty of military life.

March 2006: Steve McManus presents at the Milwaukee Insurance Adjuster's Association luncheon
Steve McManus spoke to the Milwaukee Insurance Adjuster's Association about the 2006 statutory changes and hot topics in the worker's compensation arena.

November 2005: Jim Nowakowski is named Super Lawyer in the Milwaukee Magazine
Approximately 12,600 attorneys throughout Wisconsin were asked to nominate attorneys whom they have personally worked with, and feel are some of the best attorneys they have observed in practice. The nominations were gathered, and the final research and selection process took place. Jim Nowakowski has practiced law for over 20 years, and has gained the respect of his fellow attorneys which is evidenced in his nomination and selection as a Super Lawyer.

November 2005: Steve McManus presents at the State Bar seminar on USERRA, SCRA, and WFEA
Steve McManus co-presented to the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar on employer and employee rights under federal and state laws for reserve and guard members activated to fight in the War on Terror.

September 2005: Steve McManus presents at the 5th Annual Worker's Compensation Conference
Steve McManus presented "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Worker's Compensation Case Law" at the 5th Annual Worker's Compensation Conference hosted by Medical Systems, Inc. Steve also co-hosted a panel discussion on the handling of a sample worker's compensation claim.

August 2005: Steve McManus presents at NBI Seminar
Steve McManus co-presented at a National Business Institute (NBI) seminar in Milwaukee, entitled, "Advanced Workers' Compensation in Wisconsin." Steve spoke on ethics and case law update.

April 2005: ROTC Administrative Discharge
Steve McManus successfully represented an ROTC cadet in an administrative discharge board, thus preventing the cadet from having to repay the tuition assistance or serve in the military.

January 2005: Steve McManus presents at the Milwaukee Insurance Adjusters Association luncheon
Steve McManus spoke to the Milwaukee Insurance Adjusters Association addressing vocational retraining and Medicare issues relating to worker's compensation claims and settlements.

January 2005: Jim Nowakowski presents at NBI Seminar
Jim Nowakowski co-presented at a National Business Institute (NBI) seminar in Milwaukee, entitled "Worker's Compensation in Wisconsin." Jim spoke on current medical issues in worker's compensation claims such as stress claims, cumulative trauma disease, occupational disease v. ordinary disease of life, and temporary total and temporary partial disabilities.

December 2003: Jim Nowakowski presents at NBI Seminar
Jim Nowakowski co-presented a National Business Institute (NBI) seminar in Milwaukee, entitled "Advanced Worker's Compensation in Wisconsin." Jim wrote and spoke on recent statutory and case law changes. He also gave a presentation on medical issues and litigation techniques in complex worker's compensation claims.

July 2003: Steve McManus is published in Wisconsin Lawyer Magazine
Steve McManus wrote an in-depth article regarding protecting legal rights of activated guards and reservists, which was published in the July issue of the Wisconsin Lawyer Magazine.

January 2003: Administrative Discharge
Military law attorney, Steve McManus, represented a Navy E-8 in an administrative discharge board. Although the command initially sought an "Under Other Than Honorable Conditions" discharge, Steve's work enabled the E-8 to remain in the Navy.

January 2003: Licensing Complaint
Steve McManus's argument to the Department of Regulation and Licensing on behalf of a client had a complaint against a registered nurse dismissed without any investigation.

December 2002: Attempted Murder/General Court-Martial
Facing several charges at a general court-martial including attempted murder, a recent Navy basic training graduate turned to Steve McManus for legal assistance. Following an arduously litigated Article 32 hearing, Steve worked out a plea agreement resulting in a summary court-martial.

November 2002: Assault charge defense
The firm represented a Navy E-8 who was charged with 8 various specifications, including three assault charges; the defendant faced 1 year of confinement and a BCD. Working aggressively on behalf of his client, Steve McManus convinced the prosecution to drop 6 of the charges and reduce the punishment to 60 days hard labor without confinement and $1,500 in forfeitures.

October 2002: Reinstatement of Professional License
In a rather complicated case, Steve McManus won the reinstatement of loan officer's license after it was summarily revoked.

August 2002: Desertion Case
Steve McManus represented a Marine wartime deserter who faced serious court-martial charges. Taking charge of the case, Steve negotiated on behalf of his client, getting all charges reduced to an administrative separation.

December 2001: Wisconsin Lawyer Magazine Focuses on Steve McManus
Wisconsin Lawyer Magazine, published by the Wisconsin Bar Association, ran a feature article on Steve McManus, highlighting his successes and contributions to the area of military law.

May 2001: Reinstatement of Medical License After Revocation
Working vigorously to protect the livelihood of his client, Steve McManus had a doctor's medical license reinstated after it had been revoked.

October 2002 saw the creation of one of Milwaukee's top law firms, Nowakowski & McManus, LLP. Both partners, James Nowakowski and Steve McManus, were previously with another law firm in the Milwaukee area when they decided to branch out on their own. Founding their own firm based on the principle of client care, Nowakowski & McManus, LLP, continues to offer outstanding legal services to their clients.
